ST BRIDGET OF SWEDEN SCHOOL
The Student Council at St. Bridget of Sweden School is a yearlong commitment to improving both the school community and the community at large. The members are elected to represent the student body and to work together on all projects or issues that come before the Student Council. They are examples to others in the school and ensure the wellbeing of their peers. During elections, we expect that candidates demonstrate the ability to follow these guidelines.
Below are the expectations by which all members of Student Council are expected to abide.
1. Students must maintain passing grades.
2. Students must earn acceptable conduct/behavior grades.
3. Students must be a good representative of the school in academics, appearance and character.
4. Students must exhibit academic and behavioral integrity.
5. Attendance at Student Council meetings is vital to the group's success. Therefore, attendance at all Student Council meetings is mandatory. A conversation with the SC President or Advisor should take place the day before a Student Council member misses a meeting.
6. Student council members should seek permission of their advisor before moving forward with any action.
7. All student council members are expected to be full participants in SC initiatives and events.
8. Student Council members are expected to turn in deliverables regularly and on time.
The Student Council, under the guidance of our teachers and administration, empowers our student leaders to work with the faculty and staff to develop programs and activities that improve the school and student life and engage our students in charitable efforts that help people in the community. - community service projects
- parish/school service projects
- social gatherings of the student body
- School Spirit Days.
Student Council Offices
- President — Runs all Student Council meetings. Is a listener, problem solver, and can manage a group of peers. Must work well with others. Must be in 8th grade.
- Vice-President — Helps the President; steps in and runs meetings if the President is not available. (7th or 8th grade)
- Secretary — Takes minutes at all meetings; helps with organization and paperwork. Needs to have neat handwriting, good listening skills and be good at note taking. (7th or 8th grade)
- Treasurer – Counts and documents all Student Council funds. Must be good at math/money skills. (7th or 8th grade)
- Religious Affairs- Plans all schoolwide religious activities. Can be a sacristan, or works closely with the student sacristan. Leads school wide prayer. (5th, 6th, 7th, 8th)
- Publicity — Announces upcoming events/activities to the school. Creates flyers of events. Takes pictures to document events/activities. Assists with creating the school yearbook. (5th, 6th, 7th, 8th)
- Historian — Documents the year! Is present at all events to take photos. Assists with creating the school yearbook. (5th, 6th, 7th, 8th)
- Sports Commissioner — Sets up all home games (Bleachers, score machine, etc.) Creates sign-ups and flyers for sports. Organizes recess and lunch sports activities for students. Inventories and maintains sports equipment (5th, 6th, 7th, 8th)
- Student Affairs- The voice of the students. Announce any upcoming Student Council news. Needs to be outgoing and able to motivate others. Must be able to speak in front of the whole school. Needs to have great school spirit. (5th, 6th, 7th, 8th)
- Academic Affairs- Plans and organizes academic bees and/or bowls. (spelling bee, knowledge bowl, etc.) Assist with the library, assists teachers with academic learning weeks and awareness months. (5th, 6th, 7th, 8th)
- Ecology and Safety- Reuse, Reduce, Recycle! Creates a greener St. BoSS by encouraging recycling, and earth friendly activities. Promotes safety, in charge of opening/closing gates, cones, etc. (5th, 6th, 7th, 8th)
- Technology Commissioner- In charge of setting up anything technology related (microphones, projector, etc.- will be trained). Assists teachers with tech issues (will be trained) (5th, 6th, 7th, 8th)

Election Guidelines
- You must complete the registration form before beginning to campaign.
- Student Council code of conduct should be followed during the election process.
- Only 4 posters will be allowed per candidate. (3 inside the school, 1 outside the school)
- There should be no gift giving of items such as: candy, personalized items, etc.
- You must have no failing grades to be eligible to run.
- You should prepare a speech to present at the school VIRTUAL election assembly (2 minutes max) You will present this live.
- You should prepare a short commercial to present to the school. (2 mins. max)
- There will not be an automatic win, should no other candidate run against you. The decision will be made by the election committee.
- You must register to vote.
- The election committee reserves the right to treat students and their applications on a case by case basis, and reserves the right not to disclose confidential information regarding the decision.
- This will be an election of skills and abilities and not one of damages. Keep the elections peaceful and amicable.
- The election committee has the right to audit the guidelines at any point deemed necessary.
